Collate The Label

For this project, we were tasked to create a visual set for a Singaporean brand. After researching, we decided on Singapore womens wear label, Collate the Label, founded by founder and previous owner of Love, Bonito, a womens wear fast fashion label.

On our brainstorming session, we noticed the different textures that Collate uses for their clothes, like pleats. We wanted to experiment and incorporate fabric manipulation into our final product. Since it is a Singaporean brand, we wanted to have elements of Singapore as well. Therefore, we went around Singapore taking photographs of landmarks like the Merlion, the Esplanade, Marina Barrage, etc. After, we cut out a part of the photographs to create voids, which we would then replace with the different fabric manipulations that we had created after our previous experiments. The techniques that we decided to use are box pleating, shibori method and honeycomb pleats, sewing ruffles together, etc.
Finally, to create our final visual set, we bind the photos using Japanese Stab Binding with a backing and a frame to create a picture frame to showcase the photos and the different techniques.
